Thames Valley firm assists sporting body in clawing back VAT for member clubson their affiliation fees

VAT experts from Critchleys have helped secure a VAT refund of more than£300,000 for hockey clubs on the subs they pay to their governing body EnglishHockey (EH).

EH had previously been required to charge full VAT on affiliation fees tomember clubs, because the taxman said an exemption did not apply unless thecharges were made to individuals.

The Thames Valley firm assisted English Hockey finance director Ian Wilson inbrokering the deal with the taxman.

Critchleys said the challenge for English Hockey was to negotiate a refundfor the clubs without denting EH's ability to recover VAT on expenditure.
