what is step acquisition? same as piecemeal acquisition?

Yes, if I'm not mistaken step acquisition is piecemeal acquisition.

you are correct, step acquisition is piecemeal acquisition where parent acquires a part say 20% and then after some time acquires 40% that makes a total of 60% at the year end.
