Prudential in Court of Appeal to argue for legal profesional privilegeprotection for tax advice it receieved from its accountants

A vital hearing to determine whether accountants should receive the samelegal privilege as lawyers began today.

The High Court is hearing an appeal by Prudential in its case against thetaxman, where it had previously lost its argument that tax advice received fromits accountants should be confidential under legal professional privilege.

The ICAEW will speak in favour of Prudential this afternoon, while the LawSociety will seek to keep privilege solely for solicitors.
