Default Study Tips to get you ready for the ACCA Exams

Nine study tips to get you ready for the ACCA exams

1. Plan your time
These last few weeks can make all the difference to your performance in the exam. Consider your diary between now and the date of the exam and make a revision plan. Once you have made a realistic plan, stick to it. Two hours every day is probably better than revising for one long revision day. Smaller sessions help focus your effort on one area. If you are able to augment your regular revision with relatively long sessions, remember to have rest breaks. This will help you energise and re-focus.

2. The importance of the syllabus
Your exam will be taken from the syllabus and, therefore, you should be familiar with the themes and topics. Look back over your own notes and remind yourself of the earlier parts of the syllabus.

3. The exam structure
Each exam has a defined structure - make sure you know what it is. Is there a compulsory section or are the questions equally weighted? Make sure you work out how long you will spend on each question/section so that you can maximise your time in the exam.

4. Attempt past questions under exam conditions
Once you have familiarised yourself with a topic, set yourself the goal of attempting a past question. Do this under exam conditions without referring to the answer. It may seem daunting at first but after some practice you will improve.

5. Apply your knowledge
The exam questions are likely to present you with a scenario - make sure you read the exam question carefully and then apply your knowledge to the situation described. This is a skill that has to be learned, but time invested during the revision period will pay dividends in the exam.

6. Consider your social calendar
It is always good to meet up with friends, but for a short time before the exam you will have to prioritise your time. Seek the support of your friends and ask them to plan a social event after your last exam. You should also consider the engagements already in your calendar - can any be postponed until after the date of the exam?

7. Make sure your routine is healthy [/B]
You can only perform well if you are at your optimum - this includes enjoying regular routine of sleep and exercise. Establish a realistic timetable that includes retaining a healthy body. This will ensure you are fit and alert during your revision and your exam.

8. Plan for the exam day
As you near the end of your revision, your final task is to schedule the exam day itself. Remember the journey to the exam venue may be interrupted, so factor in time for possible delays. If you have a morning exam, pack any equipment the night before and do not have a late night. A good night’s sleep will ensure you have the energy and mental stamina for the exam.

9. Good luck
After following your plan you will be confident that you are well prepared and can look forward to the challenge.
